The early evening summer sun cast its last dying rays upon the hills and over the moors, while a light drizzle fell from the scattered clouds. The wet heathers gleamed back with a purple hue, as if a reflection of the evening sky itself, which responded with gold in addition. Scattered throughout the land and the various islands, the farms, hamlets and what passed for cities locked up for the night as they had been doing for a hundred years. Desecrated cairns stirred and trolls peered out from their caves. In some glens, those who still followed the teachings of the temple of blood made sacrifices both for safety and power. There were yet places that were horrors not only by night, but by day as well. No matter the light of the sun, and the resilience of humanity, sidhe and dwarf alike, the weakened veil had allowed monstrosities to become commonplace in the lands.
As a full moon rose, shining bright orange in the northeastern skies, a second moon appeared to rise with it. The bright light of the moons shone across the lands, lighting it up enough for the few brave hunters who yet roamed. Few deer would die this night, for anyone brave enough to be outside would not take their eyes off that second moon. So too would those rich enough not obtain enough sleep, and those too poor might yet catch a glimpse of what was happening. In the few holy places that still existed throughout the land, the learned take note. An old druid observed the new celestial body with great reverence.
The celestial body was in fact not a moon, but rather a comet making its way across the sky, with scintillating tails following behind it. It would grace the sky for only a short while, all things considered, but its impact would be enormous. It was a herald of a new age that was to grace these lands. Cultists might interpret it as a sign in their favor, yet war cares not for right or righteousness. There would be no justice in the conflicts that were to come. At the end of a war, there could only be victory for some, never all.
From the tail of the comet, a faerie dust fell upon and blanketed the lands. That morning, there were many who awoke knowing the world was going to be a different place. Sure, the monstrosities still roamed. The dead could not sleep. Cultists still sought favour from the gods and creatures beyond the veil. And the veil itself was far from healed. Yet, the sidhe with their greatest powers locked away for a hundred years felt the resurgence. Perhaps their old Aelven forests would once again rise and fend off the evils that humanity and dwarves had brought with them, as their leaders reclaimed their birthright over their ancient lands. In the north, the dwarves who had huddled together in their mountain homes saw the gleam in their leaders eyes. The great old smithies would shine bright again, and the legions would once again be prepared to march south to protect their northern birthright. The tribes, the homesteads, and the clan leaders all felt it too. The people would follow them in the hopes of a better world. A world where they didn't have to lock up for the night. Where they could reclaim these highlands, as was their birthright.
A new age dawned, as the comet awakened the latent powers that ran through those who were blooded. Its impact on each was quite different in many ways, but in one important, crucial manner it was similar. Whether a simple farmer chosen by his lands to lead the people upon it, or an ancient sidhe monarch, it called upon people to follow them. And follow these leaders they would.
