Magical holdings (Covens & Nodes) are subject to a different maintenance than mundane holdings. Neither affect the other for either obstacle or dice modifiers.
Every season you must succeed a resource check to sustain your "lifestyle maintenance cycle".
The maintenance obstacle is: #hired help + 0.5*#holdings + other upkeep + seasonal
Seasonal: Post-winter maintenance +1 ob Post-summer maintenance -1ob
The check rolls your Resources against the above obstacle, but with the added bonus that every level of holding adds +1D to your check. Your final roll is therefore:
Resource(-Tax) + Stability + Total Holdings + Help + ForKs + Cash + Funds + Artha
Neither advantage nor disadvantage will apply to maintenance checks.
A failed check taxes resources equal to the margin of failure. If the effective resources exponent drops to 0, the resource exponent depletes by 1D.
A character may always test maintenance even if the resources exponent is at 0.
Remember, magical and mundane holdings are separate checks and do not interact for the purpose of this check!

Magical holdings may only be ruled via sorcery (gifted human characters), via grief (elves), via greed (dwarves), or via hatred (orcs)
Human and non-human magical holdings operate slightly differently.
Maintenance obstacle for the skill is #hired help(magical) + 0.5*#holdings(magical) + other upkeep + seasonal
Seasonal: Post Spring: -1ob (Spring Equinox) Post Fall: -1ob (Fall Equinok)
The check rolls applicable skill (Sorcery, Grief, Greed, Hatred) against the above obstacle, with the added bonus that every level of magical holding adds +1D to your check. Your final roll is therefore:
Skill(-Tax) + Stability + Total Holdings + Help + Linked + Artha
Neither advantage nor disadvantage will apply to maintenance checks.
Tax for humans reduces the sorcery skill (rather than Forte). Tax for elves, dwarves and orcs reduces their grief, greed and hatred respectively.
If a character's effective sorcery reduces to 0 due to tax, the sorcery exponent is depleted by 1. If the sorcery exponent drops to 0, the character loses their gifted trait and the ability to affect magical holdings.
If a character's effective grief, greed or hatred reduces to 0 due to tax, the grief, greed or hatred increases by 1 - the power granted by magic to non-humans is seductive and ultimately destructive
